The morning-after pill (MAP) will become available to obtain free of charge from pharmacies in England later this year. The move is described as "reckless" by pro-life campaigners.
The MAP was first licensed for occasional use, but it can now be acquired without prescription and given to school pupils under the age of consent. The drug can cause early stage abortions and encourages reckless sexual behaviour.
Some pharmacies currently charge up to £30 for the pill, although it is free from most GPs and sexual health clinics.
Minister of State for Care Stephen Kinnock MP described the drugs as “safe” and claimed that equal access is “crucial to women’s healthcare and a cornerstone of a fair society”.
But a realistic pro-life assessment is that the morning-after pill is neither safe nor fair. It destroys unborn children, and its promotion encourages sexual activity outside marriage – including among school children. This is a reckless policy that is extremely damaging to our society.
